Although we have often faced challenges when designing and constructing a new landscape, this project has to be one of the quickest we’ve ever had to do. A unique opportunity, a worthy cause and a momentous challenge – this is the fourth in a series of blogs which follows this ambitious landscape project…
If you have been following our progress on designing and constructing this new landscape for St George’s Hospital, then you’ll know that it has happened in a remarkably short period of time. A new design in two weeks, followed by three and a half weeks of construction – and we’re now looking at completing the new Wellbeing Garden next week. The project has been funded by Captain Tom’s remarkable NHS fundraising earlier this year and we couldn’t be more pleased that it will be used to create a restorative green space right outside the hospital entrance at St George’s Hospital in London.
Our construction team has been hard at work on site in the last couple of weeks – landscaping the ground, preparing pathways and clearing areas ready for planting. Just yesterday we took delivery of all our plants and our design team has been on site setting out where they’ll go. Of course, the next task is to plant them all – which will happen in the next few days. It also involves planting an extensive number of bulbs, which will be ready for spring – so it’s all hands on deck with our designers, construction team and even some nurses from the hospital getting involved!
The collaboration on this project has been wonderful to see in what, otherwise, are uncertain times. Not only with the hospital team, and our internal designers and construction team, but also with our suppliers who have been generous in giving discounts, donations and support in getting our construction underway on budget and on time. We’d like to say a special thank you to: Palmstead Nurseries, Torc Pots, Charles Wilson Engineers, InTurf, Deepdale Trees, Bourne Amenity, Soil & Stone, APS Grabs, GravelTech, RoundWood and AHS Ltd for all your kind support for this worthy cause.
And if you want to see our progress on the landscape yourself, then have a scroll through our little photo diary below…
So what’s next? Well the coming days we’ll be busy planting into a rather muddy and water-logged landscape. Next week, we’ll be adding the finishing touches, including laying the new lawn. So look out for our next blog when we’ll have finished the landscape and hopefully will have some exciting updates to share with you…
