Chief Executive
Favourite landscape: Villa Bomarzo, Italy
John has more than 35 years’ professional experience and is a widely published and respected designer, lecturing on his work both in the UK and abroad. He has designed hundreds of landscape, many of which have won awards, ranging from private gardens to large-scale development projects. Graduating with a Landscape Architecture Degree from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1983, John became a Member of the Landscape Institute in 1990 and was elected as a Fellow in 2020. He was also recognised as a Fellow of the Society of Garden Designers in 2011, having served on its Council from 2004-2010. John cofounded the company in 1993 and continues to take a lead role in design, client liaison and the planning process. He writes a widely-read monthly blog that explores his insights into the design process, ponders on the roles of landscape and maintenance, and relates his adventures with cycling and swimming ponds.
Managing Director
Favourite landscape: St Pancras Old Church
Dan joined our landscape construction arm in 2006. With a background in hard and soft landscape construction, Dan has been involved in a long line of medal-winning Chelsea gardens and award-winning commercial landscapes. Dan’s client portfolio includes private clients, government bodies and commercial organisations, and his broad expertise includes landscape restoration, town & country gardens and commercial projects.
Operations Director
Favourite landscape: Mount Edgcumbe, Cornwall
Matthew graduated from Merrist Wood in 1990 and gained national recognition before joining our group’s construction arm in 2006. He has over 20 years’ industry experience working on private and commercial construction projects in the UK and abroad. Matthew’s core expertise lies in competitive pricing and management of sizeable landscape maintenance portfolios for blue chip companies, high profile local authorities and private estates.
Special Projects Director
Favourite landscape: His own garden
Stuart graduated with a Degree in Garden Design from Writtle College in 1999 and joined us a year later. His specialist area is planting design and he has exceptionally good links within the nursery industry. Stuart is responsible for most of our soft landscape schemes and takes a design from initial client liaison and planting concept to detailed design and sourcing, supervising the finished scheme on site. He has an extremely good reputation in the industry and is part of the horticultural heart of Bowles & Wyer.
Head of Design
Favourite landscape: Temple of Heaven Park, Beijing
Jonathan studied landscape architecture at Manchester Metropolitan University and worked in large and small design-led practices gaining experience of educational and urban design projects before joining us in 2015. Jonathan coordinates the design team on a variety of residential and commercial projects that deal with a range of spatial and technical complexities. He gained his Chartership status in May 2018 and combines his theoretical knowledge with the ability to create innovative, site-specific design solutions for our clients.
Head of Studio
Favourite landscape: Igualada Cemetery, Barcelona
Joining the team in 2018, Anca is a talented chartered landscape architect with a background in architectural design and urban planning. Anca Runs the studio on a day to day basis with Jonathan and is responsible for design culture. She has worked alongside multi-disciplinary teams across a range of master-planning projects and detailed design, and in 2017 was selected as one of ProLandscaper’s 30 under 30 winners. Passionate about creating meaningful places that tell a story, she has strong experience of creating innovative and exciting show gardens, most notably at RHS Hampton Court, Chaumont-Sur-Loire in France, and RHS Tatton 2017 as a Young Designer Finalist. Graduating in Romania with a Degree in Landscape Design and Planning, Anca then moved to Edinburgh to study for a Masters in Landscape Architecture. She brings a sense of artistry to her designs at Bowles & Wyer, combining creative thinking, graphic flair, and technical detail on every project.
Head of Horticulture & Aftercare
Favourite landscape: Tresco Abbey Garden, Isles of Scilly
Jeff has been our Head of Horticulture & Aftercare for more than a decade. Having started his horticultural career at the renowned Capel Manor College in North London studying Horticulture and Countryside Management, he went on to study the Kew Diploma in Horticulture at R. B.G Kew, graduating in 1993 with Honours and winning the ‘Best overall performance’ award. A landscape, plant and aftercare expert, Jeff joined us in 1996 and is now responsible for over 70 projects ranging from small roof terraces to large country gardens, public squares and large commercial green spaces.
Aftercare Supervisor
Favourite landscape: Wicklow mountains in Southern Ireland
Eamonn joined Bowles & Wyer in 2021 after a rich and varied career in Horticulture, with over 25 years of experience in the industry working in a variety of positions from elite level sport venues, advisor on construction of national Rugby pitch in Kazakhstan, large independent schools as a Grounds and Gardens Manager including a Humphry Repton garden. Along with Oliver, Eamonn is an essential cog in the Bowles and Wyer machine and covers the day-to-day running of the aftercare department, including meeting with clients, gardeners and suppliers as well as organising the work schedules.
Contracts Supervisor
Favourite Landscape:
Glyn first started at Bowles & Wyer as a site operative on the Hard Landscape team in 2008. As one of our longest standing contruction team members, over the years he has worked on many projects from Cap d'Antibes on the French RIviera to London roof gardens, as well as a few stints at the Chelsea Flower Show.
Glyn's role as Contracts Supervisor takes him across many of our sites, where his practical skills help solve many problems and make work flow more smoothly.
Landscape Architect
Favourite landscape: The jagged coastlines and flora of the South West
Meg joined Bowles & Wyer in 2019, after studying for a Post-Graduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture, qualifying with Distinction. Meg was initially working in the media industry, before she followed her passion for horticulture and carved out a new career, starting in nursery & estate maintenance roles. After studying for her RHS Level 2 certificate, she started her own maintenance and soft landscaping business in 2016, before pursuing a career in landscape design. Meg is an invaluable member of the design team and has worked on a variety of projects - from urban residential gardens to commercial roof terraces.
Chartered Landscape Architect
Favourite Landscape: Bodnant Gardens, Wales
After initially beginning her education in Interior Design, Fiona then graduated in Landscape Architecture from Birmingham City University in 2018 – where she won the Landscape Institute Midland Branch John Knight Award. Fiona joined the design team at Bowles & Wyer in 2021, bringing with her experience working in a landscape architecture department for a multidisciplinary consultant, as well as a high-end residential developer. Her design portfolio includes projects such as children’s care homes, residential developments, sports facilities and public realm schemes.
Consultant Landscape Architect
Favourite landscape: A woodland, anywhere
Vicky graduated with an Honours Degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture with Distinction from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1984, and became a member of the Landscape Institute in 1986. She had a successful career in landscape private practice before joining Bowles and Wyer at its inception. Vicky’s particular expertise is in larger projects, urban design and strategic landscape planning, but she is equally at home designing courtyards and roof gardens. She has the skills to deliver a scheme that satisfies a client’s commercial brief without losing sight of inspired design solutions.
Assistant Landscape Architect
Favourite Landscape: Valley of flowers, Himalayas
Vinayak completed his architecture degree in India before pursuing a Master’s in Landscape Architecture from Anhalt University in Germany. He then gained valuable experience at BOGL in Copenhagen, where he deepened his understanding of Scandinavian sensibility towards design through diverse projects, including schoolyards, housing courtyards, urban parks amongst others. In 2018, he returned to India to establish his own practice and took on the role of Assistant Professor of Architecture and Landscape, sharing his global perspective and insights with aspiring designers. In 2024, he joined Bowles &Wyer.
Assistant Landscape Architect
Favourite landscape: Drakensberg Mountains, South Africa
Havanya joined the design team in 2022 - all the way from South Africa! She started her route to landscape design a little differently and initially studied Environmental Geographical Science and Psychology at The University of Cape Town, before graduating with Honours in Landscape Architecture in 2020. Since then, she has gained experience in commercial and industrial projects and is now excited to be part of the Bowles & Wyer team.
Assistant Designer
Favourite landscape: Wistmans wood, Dartmoor
Initially training as an actor before nurturing a love of gardening, Reece worked as a gardener for several years before completing the Garden Design Diploma at The London College of Garden Design in 2024.
Bowles & Wyer work on a fascinating range of projects, and he is thrilled to be working with such an experienced team.
Office & Administration Manager
Favourite landscape: Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh
Mandy is the hub of Bowles & Wyer. She joined us in 2006 - running our office and administration and making sure our business runs smoothly and efficiently. If you have any problems, Mandy is your first point of call.
Purchasing manager
Favourite Landscape: Horton Plains National Park, Sri Lanka
Matt started with Bowles & Wyer in 2024 as Purchasing Manager after working in the motor trade for 20 years.
He runs the procurement side of operations, working closely with the estimating and constructions teams.
Senior Estimator
Favourite Landscape: North Norfolk Coastline
Having graduated from agricultural college, Ed joined an agricultural merchanting firm in Surrey as a salesman and farm grain trader.
A chance meeting with an old friend has now led to a twenty-one-year career in the landscaping industry, from working as a labourer on site to estimating and contract manager roles in the last few years.
Ed joined Bowles and Wyer in 2024 as senior estimator
Trainee Estimator
Favourite Landscape: Woodlands and flower meadows of Lake Elektrėnai – Lithuania
After studying Ecology and Biogeography Leo worked part-time for a family friends landscaping business over the years before joining another company as a Commercial assistant helping the procurement and estimating teams. He eventually took over full buying and estimating duties before joining Bowles and Wyer in July 2024.
Marketing Co-ordinator
Favourite landscape: Battersea Park, The isle of Capri Italy
Maxine joined Bowles & Wyer in 2024 following a brief career break from a varied career in marketing, working for several of the world’s leading technology companies. With a degree in Marketing Management from Manchester Metropolitan University.
She is now working closely within the team to develop effective marketing campaigns and support with marketing collateral.
The thoughtfulness and passion Bowles & Wyer put into their projects really drew her to join the team.
