We designed two of the public courtyards which make up Addenbrooke’s Hospital – creating pockets of calm for visitors and patients to take a moment out in nature. The courtyard outside the head trauma unit is designed to be wheelchair friendly, simple, calm – without too much stimulation for the patients, but a restorative space nonetheless. The other courtyard has more texture and colour in its planting and has a contemporary feel with its Corten Steel borders. Most importantly, the secluded benches and central water feature have created an inviting space for staff and visitors alike.
